About Rest & Recuperation

Hi, I'm Carly and I am delighted you are here at Rest and Recuperation, aka R&R. Here we (we being me and my pals that I invite to share stories and practices and tools here too) are all about figuring out better ways to be better human beings in this crazy world and also who we are and might be as our most authentic selves. This generally involves addressing old wounds, cracking off the layers of bullshit that life has piled on us, having the tools and mindsets to be more present and curious with what is, so we have more agency in choosing how to respond, and finding connection as being part of something greater than us- in community, hobbies, service, or spiritual practice. That's like, a whole plethora of tools and practices right there so expect lots of different options for different situations. This requires us first to give ourselves permission to slow down and take a beat - Rest - and then do the work to get back to ourselves - Recuperation. Boom.

I see it as having a few buckets of tools - for acute situations when you need to self-regulate or process big feelings; foundational practices that help change your mindsets and habits for the good when done on the regs; and last self-transcendence aka reflections and activities that help you clean up the sludge of life on your psyche and figure out who you want to become and what you want to do in and for the world when you have the time and capacity to do so.

As a Navy veteran (11 years active duty) who has spent my entire career in military organizations, I am most passionate about getting these resources to my fellow veterans and military members. And not just US- I have had wonderful opportunities working with foreign partners and especially my FVEY pals (UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) so this is for y'all too!! Military and veteran mental health is such a personal mission for me - so this is what I can do in my capacity as a yoga and meditation teacher, augmented by lots of additional training and graduate level education in psychology.

That being said, this is for everyone - my soul's purpose in life is to help people discover and embody their authentic selves - be who they are meant to be and share their unique qualities with the world in meaningful ways.
